BOA Stage & Screen Alumna Jess Watson Makes Her Mark in the TV Industry

From ITV productions to prime-time entertainment and Netflix, BOA Stage and Screen alumna Jess Watson is already building an impressive career behind the scenes in television.

Since completing her Level 3 Film & TV course at BOA Stage & Screen between 2022 and 2024, Jess has wasted no time making the most of opportunities within the industry, gaining experience across a range of exciting productions and working alongside established production teams.

One of her recent highlights has been joining the Locations and Assistant Directors department at ITV's Emmerdale. Jess was also invited to assessment days at ITV Academy's Leeds Emmerdale studios and ITV Studios London for its Production Assistant Trainee Scheme, marking another exciting step in her career.

Her experience has extended into some of the UK's biggest entertainment productions. Jess recently secured her first contract with Fremantle as a Runner and Logger on Britain's Got Talent Series 20. Working as part of the production team during the Judges' Tour in Blackpool, her responsibilities included supporting the contestant holding room, controlling the Blackpool Tower lights and logging audience Gogglebox reactions.

Jess has also been making her mark on streaming platforms, securing two Netflix credits. Earlier this year, she gained her first on-screen television credit working on Outside, a reality competition series created by the Sidemen. The production went on to reach number one in the Netflix series charts, making it an exciting milestone in Jess's growing career.

More recently, she joined the team behind Beat Luke Littler Live, working first as a Production Runner supporting registration at the Manchester auditions before taking on the role of Talent Runner for Gary Lineker during the live show.

With experience spanning locations, assistant directing, production running and talent support, Jess is developing an impressive range of skills and building valuable connections across the television industry.

Reflecting on what has been an incredibly busy few months and how far she has come since graduating, Jess said: "The last few months have been pretty much non-stop! It’s been exciting, challenging and occasionally a bit chaotic, but I think the biggest realisation for me has been that I’m now sat in rooms I once never imagined I’d even get into.”

“In all honestly, working in such a fast-paced industry, it’s easy to get caught up in what’s coming next, especially when the temptation of new, and sometimes completely different, opportunities keep coming your way. But something I’ve really tried to remind myself recently is to take a moment to appreciate where I am now, because not that long ago, this was exactly what I was working towards."
